The Idea

Dear Respondents,

Two recent experiences have led me to this project: 1) I read the book The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, which is about a Southern white woman in the 60's who gathers the stories of black "domestics" and stirs up quite a fervent response in her small town in Mississippi. 2) I watched 12 Angry Men (again), a film from 1957 featuring Henry Fonda and eleven other men who meet to decide the fate of a young man accused of murder. They start out 11 to 1, guilty ... and that's all I'm going to say. See it. There is a 1997 version with Tony Danza that is equally tense.

Anyway, these experiences have allowed me to focus my interest in all things courtroom (as anybody who knows me knows that I am a huge Court TV fan and fantasize about being a lawyer). What I'd like to do here is simply gather the stories of jurors. If you have ever served on a jury, no matter what kind of case, where you were, the relative importance of the case ... please describe your experience in as much detail as you please. Let's see where this goes.

Thank you.

Tamara

p.s. For some reason, my husband's name appears as the person who posted this blog topic. I am trying to correct that ... but it's me.

  1. Hey Facebook People! - Which of you has served on a jury? I'd like to hear your stories. Watching 12 Angry Men has got me thinking.Yesterday at 11:54am Only Friends · Comment ·LikeUnlike

Yesterday at 12:13pm · Leigh West I am probably the only person in the world who really wants to be called for jury duty and have never been sent a request. I have been registered to vote since I was 18 and still have not received a summons.
Yesterday at 12:48pm · Paul Nance I wouldnt mind doing jury duty, but I have never been asked !
Yesterday at 1:07pm · Angela Alverson Osborne I have never been asked either - Paul, maybe it is a Keel Mtn. thing - they do not want us :)
Yesterday at 1:54pm · Tamara Miles Gantt Thanks for responding, everybody. I've been called for duty before a few times, but I had to get out of it for work ---and then when I did go, I wasn't chosen after the initial jury questioning process. I'd really like to serve.

  2. Please note that I just copied the following conversation from Facebook for record-keeping purposes. I will clean it up and post it more formally later. Thanks to everybody for responding on Facebook. Again, this is Tamara Gantt --- not Beaury Gantt. I am working on figuring out why his name keeps showing up on my posts. :>)

  3. That should have said "I've just copied the conversation above --- not following. Could I possibly be more confusing?
